Why A.E.

A photograph is as much a window into the mind of a photographer as it is into the scene that has been shot.  I have thought this to be so since I started studying photography in 1995.

Photography is how I show people the way I view the world.  I can’t paint, and I can’t draw, so the camera is my tool of choice.

I started shooting pictures in high school, using an older Cannon film camera that I bought from a second hand store and carried for years, including on my adventures in Europe at the end of college.  Since then I have graduated to a modern digital SLR, still a Cannon, my trusty Digital Rebel Xti.

I like to shoot events, which I do in photo-journalistic style.  I also enjoy shooting very detailed macro photography, extreme closeups of a flower covered in frost, or the ring on a brides finger.

Other areas of my interest include portraiture and boudoir photography.  In an era of hyper-sexualization and unrealistic body image, I love the chance to show that any person can be attractive, regardless of build.  Everyone deserves the chance to look and feel sexy and attractive, and have that memory recorded for years to come.

In addition to photographing events, I also have experience in planning them, both formally and informally.  I have been a stage manager for theatrical productions, organized a themed Halloween party, and once planned and executed two weddings in the same weekend in the summer of 2010.

Currently my favorite types of events to plan or shoot are what you would call Non-Traditional events.  This can mean anything from a French Gothic wedding to a Masquerade birthday or a Pagan handfasting.

When I’m not taking pictures or planning the next dinner party at my house, I also like to work on do-it-yourself projects.  I knit, crochet, sew, quilt and work in paper arts and mixed media.  I am constantly looking for new ideas and new patterns.  Many of these ideas can make simple and wonderful additions to your next event.

I look forward to hearing from you.
